Villa Sulawesi is a luxury villa in Sulawesi, Indonesia designed by Archidom Studio, the architecture studio based in Marbella and Madrid. The studio’s scope covers architecture.

Where two cultures meet

Where the Mediterranean meets Asia

Set in Indonesia, amid lush tropical vegetation, Villa Sulawesi is born from the meeting of the serenity of Mediterranean architecture and Asian building tradition. The project reinterprets both languages from a contemporary perspective, integrating architecture, landscape and water into a singular residential experience.

Tradition reinterpreted through material

Materiality is one of the project’s essential elements. Dark tiled roofs, mineral mortar finishes and locally sourced reclaimed teak build an architecture that is warm, honest and deeply rooted in its place.

Traditional craftsmanship and the Arts & Crafts ethos take centre stage through texture, construction joints and detail, establishing a dialogue between tradition and contemporary design.

An architecture that commands the landscape

The placement follows a precise strategy of adapting to the topography. Through a sequence of natural stone retaining walls, the villa rises above the land to command open views of the ocean.

These stepped platforms organise the different levels of the brief and create a continuous relationship between the interiors, the terraces and the tropical landscape.

Water as the common thread

The architectural composition is organised around two large side wings, connected visually and spatially by a spectacular structure of bridges and water platforms.

This system becomes the backbone of the house, creating a sequence of pools, waterfalls and wellness spaces that run through the architecture on different levels.

The main pool appears as a raised sheet of water, beneath which part of the spa programme unfolds. A second, linear pool extends the water experience across the terraces and ends in a waterfall that flows into an artificial beach set within the landscape.

Beneath this structure lie further wellness spaces, with direct access from the spa to the beach, creating a seamless experience of architecture, water and nature.

When nature becomes architecture

Tropical landscaping is not conceived as ornament, but as an extension of the architecture itself.

Palms, native species and abundant planting weave between the volumes, courtyards and terraces, blurring the line between inside and outside while bringing privacy, shade and coolness.

A new expression of tropical luxury

Villa Sulawesi offers a contemporary interpretation of tropical luxury: an architecture that brings together Mediterranean sensibility and Indonesian identity, where natural materials, craftsmanship and water shape a way of living deeply connected to its surroundings.

An architecture that emerges from the landscape, is articulated through water and finds its identity in the balance between nature, tradition and the contemporary.

Architecture and design

The project data record private development. As in all of the studio’s residential work, architecture and interiors are considered together from the first sketch: placement on the plot, views, privacy, light and materials are resolved as a single project.
